In a major breakthrough, the Sahadevkhunta police in Baleswar district seized 12 stolen motorbikes, arrested six persons and forwarded them to court on Tuesday. The arrested were sent to jail as their bail petitions were rejected.
According to police, the principal accused is Kadeswar Das (28) of village Aladia under the Chandipur police station. The others arrested were the receivers of the bikes, Nigamananda Ghodai, Chittaranjan Bhadra, Robin Majhi, Smrutiranjan Behera, Kartikeswar Majhi and Amarendra Jena, all between 25-35 years of age.
Sahadevkhunta police station IIC Paresh Rout said, “The principal accused was caught on March 22 by a patrolling party. He was fleeing by a high-speed bike when he saw the patrolling vehicle at around 11.30 pm. He was intercepted near Police line Square.
During verification of documents, it was found that he was using a stolen bike. The subsequent interrogation revealed his misdeeds and 11 other bikes were seized from different places. All the bikes were of make of Hero or Hero Honda,” “Kadeswar alias Kadua had earlier been arrested in other crimes,” he added.
Rout also said that since the lock and key of any bike deteriorate due to weathering and aging, the miscreants take the advantage and steal it. It is advisable to put a double lock besides the company’s lock, he said.
