Situation returning to normal in Bhadrak

The situation in the riot-hit Bhadrak town is fast returning to normal with relaxation of the curfew during day time for the last several days though night curfew continues.

The Bhadrak district administration relaxed the prohibitory orders on Tuesday for 12 hours from 6 am to 6 pm. The police have so far rounded over 170 persons, including Bhadrak Municipality ward no 13 Councillor Subhankar Mohapatra alias Kalia, in connection with the violence in the town.

Meanwhile, the district administration would submit the assessment report on damages caused during the recent riots on Wednesday, sources said.

As per reports, 25 of the 30 Wards of Bhadark Municipality have been affected by the violence. Around 180 permanent and temporary shops and more than 120 houses have been completely damaged during the unrest. Seven teams headed by district Collector Gyanaranjan Das were engaged to assess the damage.

Notably, the situation in the communally-sensitive Bhadrak town turned volatile from April 6 after some objectionable posts were posted on social networking sites triggering tension between two communities.
