The Orissa High Court on Monday directed the State Government to conduct a fresh probe into the Kunduli gangrape and suicide case by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising police officers of the DIG rank.
While the State Crime Branch has submitted the closure report of this case to the High Court, the victim’s mother and several others had prayed to the court for a CBI investigation into the case.
Hearing the pleas of all the parties, Chief Justice KS Jhaveri in his ruling said, “A CBI probe into the case is not necessary as the court would monitor the investigation by the SIT, which would have three DIGs of the Odisha police. The team would submit its report to the court after a thorough investigation.”
The court would take up the matter in its next hearing on December 16.
