SIT formed by Puri SP proves of no use

Even though more than a month and a half has passed since the theft of gold ornaments from a journalist’s house on July 7, the inaction of the Puri police has raised many eyebrows.

Interestingly, though the Puri SP K Vishal Singh had ordered for forming a Special Investigating Team (SIT), it is yet to officialy come into existence even after a month.

Most tragic is that the police have not yet arrested a single person suspected by the journalist in the incident.

Notably, 120 gram of gold besides half a kg of silver ornaments with cash of Rs 10,000 was stolen from the house of Pioneer reporter Saroj Kumar Mishra.

In the same night, burglars had looted a huge amount of gold ornaments and cash from three houses in the city. However, even after 45 days the
police are yet to crack the cases and nab anyone in this connection.  Based on CCTV footage, police have only recovered a bike and detected a link of people from Baliapanda slum area.

Notably, on June 7, Mishra had registered a complaint with the Town police station stating theft of gold ornaments from his house. Mishra suspected his maid servant, her son and a hotelier’s involvement in the incident. All the suspects belong to the Baliapanda area.  The ornaments were stored in the locker for the marriage of his daughter
