The BJB Autonomous College authorities on Saturday lifted the fortnight-long sine die closure of the college and asked students to return to their hostels.
The premier institute had been closed sine die on September 28 following violence in the campus ahead of Students’ Union elections. The campus was handed over to the Khordha district administration.
“Inmates can return to their hostels from 5 pm Saturday. We will keep strict a vigil on the students and also on the campus,” said college Principal Prof Mohammed Nawaz Hasan.
Classes would resume from Monday.
Notably, protesting the sine die decision of the college authorities, a student, Soubhagya Kumar Sahu, who was supposed to contest the Students’ Union elections on October 5 as an Independent candidate, had tried to immolate himself by pouring petrol on him. luckily, he was saved by the police and friends.
Sahu’s supporters had accused the Principal and teachers of being supportive towards candidates owing allegiance to a particular political party and a Minister.
