There is a reason to cheer for wildlife activists and conservationists as the tiger population in the Similipal National Park has shown a good sign of growth of the National Animal.

According to sources, number of the tiger in the Tiger Reserve Forest (TRF) has reached to 25 including one black tiger. It was revealed by the reserve forest authority after scrutinising photos captured by the cameras installed inside the core area of the forest.

Out of the total 2750 sq km of the sanctuary, 400 sq km area in the middle of it is known as core area. The authorities have fitted 128 cameras to keep eye on the movements of the tigers.

“After our field study, we found photos of 25 young tigers from our cameras installed inside the core area,” said Regional Chief Conservator of Forests, Baripada, Anup Kumar Nayak.

Besides, numbers of deer and sambar have also been increased due to a safe zone for the animals created by the authorities over the years and better management.
