Some unruly monkeys have been unleashing a reign of terror at Manakarpur, Ekanakhandi and Sunailo villages since Thursday. Six persons, including a child, a woman and a retired doctor were injured.
They were identified as Dr Sachidananda Das, Minati Parida (wife of Golakha Behiari Parida), Purnananda Rout, Bhupati Satapathy, Papu Bhoi (13) and Ratnakar Das. Seriously injured Parida on Saturday was rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
The residents of Manakarpur, Ekanakhandi and Sunailo villages are now in the grip of rogue monkey terror for last 48 hours. Their ordeal is that these monkeys are attacking them all at once and leaving them injured. Things have reached to such a pass that the denizens most of the time keep them indoors. Whenever they come out, they have to wield batons so as to ward them off the monkeys.
Bijay Bhoi, a local, said the school children are skipping school fearing these monkeys. Attendance has dropped drastically in last one week at the local primary school. Meanwhile, some locals on Saturday met the sub collector and urged him to take necessary steps to drive out the simians from the locality.
