The Sikh community of Odisha has demanded a direct train between Puri and Amritsar via Baleswar, Hijli and Tatanagar.
The train would not only benefit the people desiring to visit these sacred places but also boost the tourism of Odisha and Punjab, apart from enhancing cultural and trade ties between the two States.
Recently, a Sikh delegation met Railways Minister Aswani Vaishnaw during his visit to Baleswar and the latter assured to do the needful, said Amar Singh Walia.
“It would be a sacred rail link if a train is introduced to connect Puri and Amritsar. Puri has been attached to our Sikh religion since the inception of Khalsapanth,” Walia added.
