School authority pays Rs 5,000 to silence parents
A girl student died after she failed to get proper medical treatment in a Government Sevashram school here. Shockingly, the authority of the school allegedly paid Rs 5,000 to the family members of the girl not to disclose the matter to anybody and cremate the body slyly.
According to sources, the incident occurred at Maliguda village under Renga panchayat in Semiliguda block. Deceased Ulaas, daughter of Sadhu Hantal, was studying at the Haridaput Sevashram in Jeypore.
For a few days, she was suffering from fever. The school authority provided her medicines but they were of little avail. As Ulaas continued to suffer from high fever, she was allowed to go home with her parents. Her parents took her to the Jeypore medical and returned with some medicines.
However, there was no relief from the illness. Rather, Ulaas’s condition deteriorated. She was admitted in the Kunduli Block Health Centre and later shifted to the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital. There she was detected to be suffering from brain malaria and while undergoing treatment the girl breathed her last.
After getting the news, the school staff rushed to Ulaas’s village and gave Rs 5,000 to her illiterate and poor parents not to reveal the matter anywhere. later, they also remained silent without bringing the issue to the notice of either the district administration or the DWO. Meanwhile, headmistress NB lakshmi rubbished the charge of any neglect by the school authorities.
