The Government has a proposal under active consideration for extending the tenure of the Justice BP Das Commission on Shreemandir reforms, informed law Minister Pratap Jana in the State Assembly in response to a question of BJP MlA Dilip Ray on Thursday.

The Minister said the State Government set up the commission on July 23, 2016 for suggesting reforms in the Puri Jagannath Temple in various aspects, including conduct of rituals. The commission’s initial tenure was for six months.

However, the period was extended twice, six months each. Now, a further extension of the commission’s tenure is under active consideration of the Government, the Minister said.

The commission has submitted two interim reports, one on April 20, 2017 and another on December 7, 2017, to the Government. The commission has made various recommendations on security, development and promotion of the Jagannath culture.

The Government has already taken steps to implement some proposals while some other recommendations are under its active consideration.

The Government has so far spent about Rs 94 lakh for the commission’s functioning.
