Hours after photos taken by a police official inside the Jagannath Temple here went viral on social media on Monday, Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi suspended the guilty Sub-Inspector of Police for the incidence.
Sources said SI Dilip Panda of the Puri Beach police station visited the Shreemandir to perform Mahalaya Shraddha in the morning.
He took pictures while performing the rituals on the Baisi Pahacha and at a few other places inside the temple and posted the same on his Facebook account.
However, Panda later deleted the pictures from Facebook after the incident was reported by news channels. When asked, Central Range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi said the matter would be investigated and departmental action would be taken. It might be mentioned here that nobody including the sevayats is allowed to carry smartphones inside the temple.
