SHRC moved on attack on RTI activist's son

RTI campaigner Pradip Pradhan has sought intervention of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in the case of brutal attack on a minor boy of Kendrapada district. This is the first-ever case in the State where a child was mercilessly attacked by miscreants as his RTI activist father tried to expose corruption using RTI in the locality.

Pradhan on Wednesday lodged the petition at the SHRC urging it to direct the DGP for an inquiry by a special team after a group of activists led by him visited the victim at the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack.

He further urged the commission to direct the Government to provide free treatment to the victim, a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to Kalandi Rout, a poor labourer and a RTI activist for the loss and suffering due to attack on his son.

Notably on May 15 midnight, miscreants mercilessly attacked Suvam Sarathi Rout (10) of Bhagabanpur under the Marshaghai police station as Kalandi detected misappropriation of around Rs 15 lakh fund in repair of the Udayabata Upper Primary School and mismanagement of fund for MDM by the Headmaster, Block and District Education Officers.

He filed RTI application to the Marshaghi BEO PIO seeking information about details of fund sanctioned, utilisation along with copy of bill and vouchures.

However, the miscreants targeted his son after they failed to persuade Kalandi to refrain from doing so.
