Shops evicted from B'swar Station Road

Published on:

After a gap of a month, the Baleswar Municipality undertook an eviction drive on the Station Square road here on Monday.

Adequate numbers of police, magistrates and municipality and Works Department officials were present.

The Works Department has been entrusted to widen and repair the road belonging to the municipality. The PWD requires 62 feet in width for widening of the main road and construction of side roads.

It may be noted that the authorities had on October 22 attempted to evict shops from the road sides but failed to do so as vendors opposed.

“We couldn’t undertake the exercise last time as 78 of 203 vendors had obtained stay order from the High Court. The road has been handed over to the Works Department for widening and creation of drainage system,” informed Municipality Chairman Alok Sahu.

The project cost stands at Rs 3 crore, Sahu added.
