Five bike-borne goons, associates of gangster Hyder’s youngest son Sk Ajharudin, on Tuesday reportedly hurled bombs at two shops at Kurjanga bazaar under Mahanga police station as the shop owners refused to pay them extortion money.  One of the shop owners was injured.

According police, one Sk Abdullah of Sabalanga Kanipada village under Derabish police station had demanded Rs 30,000 from a grocer and a mobile shopkeeper in Kurjanga bazaar a week ago.

As they did not pay the money, Abdullah along with his associates hurled a bomb at a grocery shop, injuring owner Sujay Routray (30). Injured Sujay, whose shop was also damaged, was admitted in the SCB Medical College hospital at Cuttack.  Similarly, the miscreants flung bombs at a mobile shop which did not explode before fleeing from the spot. On being informed, the Mahanga police rushed to the spot and managed to seize a couple of live bombs from the spot.

Angry over Abdullah and his associates’ hooliganism, an irate mob torched a cabin of Abdullah’s associate at Kurjanga market.  later, they moved to his village Sabalanga Kanipada and set his house on fire.

A platoon of police was deployed in the village to avert any untoward happening, informed Kendrapada SP Rabi Narayan Behera.
