Shifting of court: Bhadrak bandh tomorrow

Published on:

A joint forum of the Bhadrak Bar Association, Moharirs’ Association, Vendors’ Association and Typists’ Association has decided to hold a Bandh on December 6 protesting shifting of court from the headquarters town to Nalanga panchayat.

Notably, the new location of the court is 8 km from Bhadrak town. Besides, it is a flood prone area since the site is on the bank of the Nalia river. The place is also by the side of NH-5 without a flyover or local road and therefore, is prone to accident. The forum alleged that communication to the new court site is not good.

Protesting the decision to shift the court whose present site is strategic and very good from communication point of view, forum convener Bishnu Mohapatra and general secretary Suryakanta Kuanr demanded that the court should function from its old building.

The court has a heritage building. It is over 100 years old and the second oldest court in the undivided Baleswar district, said a senior advocate and demanded that the court be allowed to operate from its old building. However, the five MlAs of Bhadrak district are tight-lipped over the issue.
