'Shift school from Jagannath temple campus'

The Gajapati Nagarik Committee on Wednesday demanded immediate eviction of the Arabindo School from the premises of the local Jagannath temple obstructing the temple’s reconstruction works.

The committee too threatened to stage a dharna in front of the school from Thursday for an indefinite period. The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee under the leadership of committee

president Parla Maharaja Gopinath Gajapati.

According to Gajapati, the Puri Sankaracharya had laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Jagannath temple a few years back but the works are not being undertaken due to the presence of the school.

“As the Aurobindo School is on the premises of the temple, it is not possible to start the reconstruction. Meanwhile, although the lease period of the school was finished and the grant period of 3.9 years also expired, the school should be evicted from the campus. But the authorities have been still running it illegally,” Gajapati alleged, adding that repeated notices to the authorities to evict the school from the temple premises have failed to evoke any response.

“We have informed the district Collector and the SP about the decision and hope, they will do the needful in this regard,” he said.
