Senior IPS officer Bijay Kumar Sharma has become the first Director of Civil Defence in Odisha after the State Government changed the nomenclature of DG Fire Services and Commandant General Home Guards.
The 1986-batch officer, on November last year, was posted as Director General of Fire Services and Commandant General (home guards) and Director of Civil Defence.
Prior to this, Sharma was serving as Director General (Prisons) and was also promoted and posted as Special DGP, Crime Branch (CID).
The top cop had also served as Commissioner of Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack from May 2008 to May 2012. Before going to deputation in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from July 1999 to July 2006, Sharma had served as Superintendent of Police of various districts from 1990 to 1999.
