Distinguished Kuchipudi dancer and social contributor Shallu Jindal was honoured with the National Nritya-Ratna Award-2014 here on Friday for her outstanding contributions and achievements in the field of Indian classical dance. She was the first Kuchipudi artist to receive the award.
Jindal was presented this award by Odisha Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice BK Mishra at the ‘5th Cuttack Mahotsav — International Dance & Music Festival —2014’. Before receiving the award, she presented a mesmerising Kuchipudi performance. “Performing in Odisha has always been a wonderful experience for me. I am very thankful to the audience here for their encouragement and support,” said she.
She was recently honoured with the Devdasi National Award and Naatyasree title at the Devdasi Nrutya Mandir.
