Shaktimaan's death mourned

The People for Animals, Bhubaneswar (Ekamra) along with some locals held a candlelight vigil at Master Canteen here on Thursday evening to pay tribute to Shaktimaan, the brave police horse which died on Wednesday in Dehradun after fighting with its injuries that he had sustained during a political rally in New Delhi. The activists demanded justice not only for Shaktimaan but all other animals who are victims of any kind of cruelty.

“The mourning of Shaktimaan’s death is to make the Government realise that animals too have rights. The offender got away with a minimal fine of `50 for torturing an animal or even killing it. This is certainly unfair,” said a member of the forum. The Animal Welfare Acts need to be strengthened and new acts regarding the same needs to be passed. Cruelty in a form is unacceptable and should strictly be punishable by law, the activist added.
