Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night' enthrals students

Students of the KIIT and KISS and the SAI International School here got an opportunity to witness Shakespeare’s love tale Twelfth Night on Friday and Saturday. UK-based Filter Theatre has adapted the play which was directed by Sean Holmes.

Twelfth Night, a fast and furious reworking of William Shakespeare, is an unconventional and interactive experience with the feel of an intimate, rock gig, said British Council East India Director Sujata Sen. The play is an extremely accessible version of Shakespeare’s much-loved comedy, she added.

“We create energy, madness and a breathless experience, all within the structure of a play, to build a relationship among actors, musicians and, most importantly, the audience,” said producer of the film Simon Reade.

“The play has already been staged in Chandigarh, Delhi and Kolkata, and we have seen audiences’ engagement in the play,” Sujata said. The play is part of a series of activities planned for the observance of the 400th death anniversary of Shakespeare in April 2016, she added.

Amid all this, the production stays true to the Shakespeare’s tale, accurately conveying the melancholy of unrequited lovers and the mad things that we all do when we fall in love head over heels, Simon said.
