A Shaheed Swabhimaan Yatra organised by the Swabhimaan Desh Ka organisation, taken out with an aim to create consciousness among people towards martyrs, reached Puri on Wednesday after covering several States.
The yatra had been inaugurated from the India Gate in New Delhi on Shaheed Bhagat Singh Diwas on March 23 by the representative of Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat and Major General Ashok Narula.
It aims at not just creating consciousness but also to move ahead with a purpose to compile data regarding former Servicemen and martyrs at the national level and request the Government for improvement of living conditions, status and employment opportunities for the family members of martyrs.
The yatra, organised under the leadership of Swabhimaan Desh Ka national president Surender Singh Bidhuri, would further move to Nagpur, Ranchi and then North Eastern States and culminate on June 24 after covering a distance of 15,000 km in 90 days. It is set to cover all the 29 States before culminating in New Delhi.
Bidhuri said it is important for the youths to be aware about the sacrifices of martyrs so that they can understand the true value of independence. He urged the Government for a ‘Shaheed Swabhimaan Card’ through which all Government benefits such as education, health, employment, free travel facility, free housing facilities and financial grant for the marriage of unmarried girl in the dependent for the families and dependents of the martyred are ensured.
