The Additional District and Sessions Judge sentenced a 25-year-old youth of Bonei in Sundargarh district to six years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for killing his mother four years ago.
The Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. He would undergo another six months RI if fails pay the fine.
Garia Patra (60) of Bijadih had in September 2012 lodged an FIR in the Bonei police station alleging that his son Pitambar Patra killed his mother, Sainta. He had beaten her to death with a wooden stick as she did not give him food. The police then arrested Pitambar and forwarded him to court.
Before making the judgement, Judge Ganeswar Pati had examined as many as 15 witnesses, sources said.
