Police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the murder case of a woman and her daughter at Orampada village under the Hemgiri police station in the district on December 25 by arresting the accused.
The accused was identified as Shalil Bhengra of Jharkhand, who works as a driver in the MCl like the deceased woman’s husband.
“Primary investigation revealed that an inebriated Shalil, went to the woman’s house in the absence of her husband during night and proposed his love to her. She opposed the move, following which he strangulated her to death. Her six-year-old daughter witnessed the scene, for which he murdered the girl too,” said Sundargarh SP Pinak Mishra at a Press conference.
Mishra said they have collected all scientific evidence from the crime scene and also raided the house of Shalil. He would be forwarded to court.
The accused also tried to kill the woman’s son but he survived after being hospitalised.
Bodies of Nandia Minj (26) and her daughter Smruti were recovered from the house in the morning after the woman’s husband Patrik Minj returned home from work and tried to wake them up. When they did not respond he informed the police.
