S'garh SBI officials gulp deceased's pension, axed

Two officials of the State Bank of India, Bargaon Branch, were suspended for allegedly committing a fraud of withdrawing Rs1.47 lakh from the pension account of a deceased teacher.

Bank authorities have also lodged an FIR in Bargaon Police Station. Police are now investigating the case.

Sources said Rupus Kujur, a retired Government teacher, who is a resident of Aludega under Bagaon Police Station in the district, had a pension account in the Bargaon branch SBI.

After his retirement, Kujur was regularly withdrawing money from the bank. Kujur passed away on September 22, 2013 who had no children and his wife had also died before. Since there was no claimant for his pension, the accused SBI officials seized the opportunity.

Customer Assistant Prabala Mundu managed to withdraw the pension amount by submitting forged documents of Kujur and using his own user id for 14 consecutive times.

In October last, Mundu had not used his own user id to withdraw the amount, instead he provoked cashier Chaturbhu Mahanandia to give his user id for the purpose and was successful in withdrawing the deceased’s pension.

When the fraudulent act came to the notice of Branch Manager S Boxi, he wrote about this to the Regional Manager, Samabalpur and also lodged an FIR in Bargaon police station. The Regional Manager, Sambalpur, suspended Mundu  and Mahanandia later.
