Following public outcry against pollution by a sponge iron plant of Bonei area, the Bonei Sub-Collector ordered closure of the unit on Wednesday. The unit reportedly shut down on Thursday.
Sources said the Bhaskar Sponge and Ferroalloys ltd. (BSFl), a mini steel plant located in Kendrikala village, was functioning its unit
since last one decade. The locals of Kedrikala and Tumkela, however, were raising their voices against their units, allegedly for creating pollution in the locality, due to which their agricultural productions were affected.
On Wednesday, about 300 villagers, mainly women of the locality, had staged a demonstration and met Bonei Sub-Collector Swadha Dev Singh and requested her intervention over the matter, narrating their plights.
