Police on Monday arrested a married man, Prabhat Mahanta (42), of Badmanapur village in Deogarh district for marrying another girl without divorcing the first one.
According to sources, Prabhat had married one Rashmita Mahanta, a resident of Hinjita village in Deogarh district, five years ago and have a three-year-old daughter. After a quarrel, the couple stayed separately.
Recently, Prabhat’s marriage was fixed with daughter of Harekrushna Mahanta of Saradhapur village under the lahunipada police station in Sundargarh district and was solemnised on Monday.
Knowing about Prabhat’s second marriage, Rashmita lodged an FIR at the Barkote police station mentioning about the marriage and brought an allegation of dowry torture.
later, the Barkote police with help of lahunipada police went to Harekrushna Mahanta’s house and arrested Prabhat. After interrogation, he was forwarded to court on Tuesday.
