A case of a poor couple having been cheated of their IAY fund has come to the fore in Sundargarh district. The Subdega block officials are now contemplating to lodge an FIR against the person who cheated the poor old couple.
Sources said Bhagirathi Naik(75), a resident of Kumerbahal village resides with his wife Urmila Naik(63).
The old couple had been informed in 2011-12 in Gram Sabha last year to construct their house under the IAY for which Rs 48,500 had been sanctioned. The first installment of Rs 22,000 had been credited to their bank account.
Since the aged couple had no helping hand, they had told their cousin nephew Pancham Naik to construct their house. But the youth allegedly withdrew Rs 22,000 from the bank account of the couple and did not construct the house.
The couple is now living in a damaged house. The house is in such a shabby condition that anytime it could collapse. Now the locals are demanding that stringent action must be taken against Pancham who has allegedly cheated Bhagirathi and his wife.
“It is true that poor Bhagirathi was cheated by his cousin nephew. Pancham has been told several times to construct the house but in vain,” said Subdega BDO Khageswar Mudi, who added that he was contemplating to lodge an FIR against Pancham.
