A headmaster of a Government primary school was suspended on Tuesday after allegation of sexual harassment against him.

A team of police and district education officials visited the school and conducted separate inquiries on Tuesday, after a group of guardians of the school met Sundargarh Collector on Monday in his grievance cell. Besides, police have also registered a case against the headmaster, now at large.

The accused was identified as Debananda Patel, headmaster in Raidhi Primary School. The guardians alleged before Collector Bhupinder Singh Punia that Patel meted out sexual harassments to several minor girls of the school.

They said that the headmaster had been regularly eve-teasing minor girls and also using fealty language, while taking class. Collector Punia had immediately directed an inquiry into the case to District Education Office and also to Sundargarh police.

Accordingly, two separate teams visited the school and conducted an inquiry into the matter in absence of the accused headmaster. Police registered a separate case on the basis of FIR of guardian of a Class IV student of the school. “During enquiry, we have found several evidences against the headmaster and therefore we have registered a case on the basis of a specific complaint from one guardian,” said Sundergarh SP R Prakash.

A team of the School and Mass Education department also visited the school and conducted a separate inquiry in to the mater.
