Alleged sexual harassment meted out to women artists in shows outside the State on the occasion of Nuankhai by the dance teachers of a troupe has been condemned here by the civil society.
As per information, a reputed dance troupe of the town visited different States on the occasion of Nuankhai. But it is alleged that the girls were sexually harassed by the group heads and the dance teachers. Even the heads and the dance masters consumed liquor in front of the girls, much to the irritation of many.
It is further alleged that a few of the girls were attending bars and were moving with short dresses in the midnight. While some were doing it out of their own interest, others were doing it under pressure. This news has become viral in social media and also a talk everywhere in the town. Of course such types of incidents are not new in the town, but it is new so far as the Nuankhai cultural programme out of Odisha is concerned.
It needs to be mentioned here that the organization that is under discussion now was at one point of time headed and founded by persons who are legendary personalities of the State. But such incidents here are not easily digested.
While none of the girls or their guardians has gone for any legal action or even lodged a FIR in the police station, but such development cannot be ruled out, said sources.
It is further learnt that one of the victims has met the district Collector in this regard. But the matter is yet to be confirmed.
