Police on Friday arrested a Professor of the SCB Medical College here and forwarded him to court on the charges of sexual harassment to and assault on a Scheduled Caste woman student of the college with intent to outrage her modesty.
“The Anaesthesia Department Professor was arrested under Section 354 (a), (b), (c) IPC and Section 3 (1) xi of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and was forwarded to
court,” informed Inspector AK Swain of the Mangalabag police station.
The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint of the PG student of the department, who recorded her statements before a magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC and on the basis of an audio CD submitted by her, the
police officer said, adding that there was prima facie evidence against the accused.
Meanwhile, wife of the arrested professor alleged, “My husband is a victim of a conspiracy hatched by other teaching faculties of the department and is a
sufferer for being strict on students and teachers as well.”
