The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action-taken report (ATR) from the Kandhamal District Superintendent of Police and the Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary on the sexual harassment of a minor, pregnant Dalit girl by a doctor.
The commission while acting on a petition filed by Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain directed the authorities to file the ATR within four weeks. The petitioner alleged that the accused Dr Ambika Mohapatra of Katringia Health Centre in Kandhamal district sexually harassed the Dalit girl which violated her human rights. She urged the commission to take action against the doctor, besides giving Rs10 lakh as compensation to the victim.
