In an open challenge to the Commissionerate Police which has apparently failed to check sex workers’ nuisance, the ones staying in a slum near Vani Vihar railway over bridge beat a youth black and blue in broad daylight on Friday near the slum.
According to sources, a youth was standing near the slum along the National Highway-16, when a sex worker came near him to solicit him. However, when the youth denied, she first used slangs. later, she along with other sex workers started beating him mercilessly on the road. As the assault on the youth was going on, passers-by and locals got enraged over incident and set fire to the slum. On being informed, the Saheed Nagar police rushed to the spot and rescued the youth. The police also detained two women.
Though the police had earlier conducted raids on the slum, they have failed to check the practice, which has been a sort of regular affair by now. In the latest raid conducted in December last, the Saheed Nagar police had arrested two youths and rescued a group of women from the same slum.
The women are not only indulged in the sex business in the slum, but blueprints of many criminal activities are being prepared from the slum, said sources.
