Hundreds of sex workers led by Odisha Patita Udhar Samiti secretary Abharani Chaudhury sat in a dharna at PMG Square here on Wednesday demanding Government assistance for them.
Later, Chaudhury, two members of the Samiti and a couple of sex workers met the Law Department authorities and submitted a memorandum. They alleged that though the State Government came to the rescue of different sections of the society during Covid-19, it forgot to help them, for which they are leading a miserable life.
Moved with their plight, the Supreme Court had issued instructions to provide them rations, they pointed out.
The apex court also directed to the District Legal Services Authorities for identification of genuine sex workers for the purpose of distribution of dry rations to them. But no step has been taken by the Government yet, the Samiti alleged.
