Sewer water flows on J’suguda main road

In the absence of a dedicated drain, sewer water is now overflowing on Jharsuguda's main road that connects Behramal Chowk to the VSS Airport via the district Collectorate. It has caused a lot of garbage dumping, leaving a massive stink for commuters and residents.

Many important offices and buildings like SP Office, District Court, Collectorate, DRDA and other district-level Government offices are located near the main road. Yet, the district administration hasn't taken any concrete steps to resolve the issue, alleged sources.

The road comes under the Public Work Department's purview and there are hundreds of residential buildings, two nursing homes, a few large hotels, and many commercial establishments on either side.

The leading cause behind the mess is the absence of a drain alongside the road near Shankar Hotel, sources said. Activist Balgobinda Mishra said, "The PWD spends crores of public money on roads, but due to lack of proper drainage facility, the public is facing grave inconvenience in Jharsuguda.

Despite numerous complaints to the authorities, the district administration has done nothing to give the residents any relief." Meanwhile, Jharsuguda PWD Executive Engineer PK Nath assured that soon tender for drainage on the road would be floated and the sewer problem would be addressed.
