Setbacks to Cong, BJP, AAP in B'swar

Major developments are taking place in the political scenario in Baleswar district shortly ahead of the elections.

While Congress leader Kamala Das has resigned from the party, four members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of the district have been suspended on disciplinary grounds. Similarly, senior BJP leader Arun Kumar Chattarjee and some party activists have resigned from the party, alleging that the party is being run in an undemocratic manner and its workers are neglected. The others who resigned from the party are Alok Ranjan Das,  Sk Rabani and Shyamal Adhya.

There is a crack in the AAP at a time when the party is going to face elections for the first time. Those suspended are district secretary Manoj Nayak, Jaykrushna Das, Hrudayachetan Das and Padmalochan Behera. Nayak said, “The organisation of the party was started by us and was strengthened in our efforts. As per the AAP’s principle, all the decisions should be taken through Gram Sabha and Aam Sabha. But the party leadership unilaterally declared the name of Mamata Kundu as the candidate for the Baleswar Parliamentary seat without consulting anyone at the ground level. Since there were many aspirants for the ticket, there is dissatisfaction among the party activists.”

“Besides, we are not being issued show-cause notices before being placed under suspension,” he said.
