Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has shot off a letter to Union Agriculture Minister for approval to establish a terminal market complex at Nildunguri in Sambalpur district on Monday.
Notably, the State Government had sent a proposal for the project to the Centre on November 9 last year after selecting a private entrepreneur to undertake it. However, the approval form the Executive Committee of the National Horticulture Mission is pending to start the project.
Citing that Sambalpur district is a major vegetable/ fruit producing area and lack of infrastructure for storage, processing and marketing the produce often compels the farmers of the district to resort to distress sale, Patnaik underlined the importance of the terminal market complex as being highly useful and urged the Union Agriculture Minister to intervene so that the project could be set up early.
