The Odisha Krushak Mahasangha has urged the State Government to establish a special court for quick disposal of criminal cases related to wild animals, including elephants.

“Wild animals protect forests, which absorb carbon-dioxide and carbon monoxide. Some drastic measures, including establishment of a special court, should be taken in order to protect the wild animals in the State forests,” Mahasangha president Bibhudendra Pratap Das mentioned in a letter to the Forests and Environment Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh recently.

Das suggested that use of valuable wooden material in private buildings be banned completely so that woods theft would be checked to a greater extent. Similarly, anti-poacher squads should keep vigil for 24 hours in all the wildlife forest divisions and persons who inform about poachers and wood smugglers be given award money of 30 per cent (to Government staffs) and 20 per cent (private persons) of value of theft materials.
