'Set up special cell to monitor madrasas'

Published on:

In the backdrop of the recent arrest of a Muslim cleric from Jagatpur, who ran a madrasa to train young boys, Bharat Raksha Manch national co-convener Murali Manohar Sharma on Friday said proliferation of these institutions is a matter of grave security concern as most of these are being used to sow the seeds of discord and for anti-national activities.

The young boys in these madrasas are lured away from their families because of abject poverty with the promise of food, shelter and education. Most of these unrecognised mdrasas preach hatred against people professing other faiths that are detrimental to harmony of Indian society, he added.

Sharma further alleged that the petty-minded politicians who only eye at the vote-bank of Muslims are helping them. These madrasas are also being used for illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh and storing arms and counterfeit currency.

The convenor recommended that the funding of these institutions needs to be scrutinised. “A special cell should be set up to monitor these terror schools and all such unregistered institutions be brought under immediate closure,” Sharma suggested.
