The 74th Indian History Congress, which concluded here on Monday, suggested the State Government to set up a State-level historical research council in order to protect the State’s glorious past.
The Congress, during its three-day session, seemed greatly impressed by the State’s continued efforts in promoting history and archaeology.
The IHC members specifically hailed the State’s contribution to the national freedom movement and its resolute measures for economic and social development of the country since Independence.
“The archaeological monuments here say everything about the splendid past of the State. Besides, the contribution of its people in freedom movement is ever remembering. Hence, this Congress recommends the Government here for setting up of an Odisha Council of Historical Research in line with the Kerala Council of Historical Research,” said a member.
He said the council may be assigned funds to undertake research projects, publication programmes and awards of fellowships both within and outside the university system. Its main objective is to spread the knowledge of State’s history and its cultural traditions, said the member.
