Even though the Supreme Court has directed for non-acceptance of offerings or donations by servitors at the Shree Jagannath Temple here, the sevayats are placing Thalis and pitchers for collection of money illegally, said the Puri District Judge in a report submitted to the Apex court.

The court had on June 8 directed the temple Chief Administrator to “ensure that no direct collection of the offerings is made by any sevayats and all the offerings either in Hundi (donation box) or are deposited and accounted for and properly utilised.”

The Judge in the submitted report has suggested for ban on placing Thalis and pitchers by servitors to receive offering.

Besides, he has made several suggestions for reforms in the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. In the report, it has been suggested to abolish the hereditary Sevak system , control of Rosaghar and Chullas by the temple management, queue system for hassle-free darshan, surveillance of collection from Hundis and receptacles, audit of temple funds by the Accountant General.

Besides, the District Judge suggested for identity cards for Sevaks and staff, registration of guides in the temple office, reduction of staffs of temple administration and single authority for security management in temple premises.
