Service woes: BSNl passes the buck

Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited (BSNl) Odisha Circle Chief General Manager Bijoyananda Mishra on Thursday passed the blame of regular disruption of its broadband, landline services and mobile phone connectivity on to various State Government agencies like the sewerage and drainage departments and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

“The disruption is happening only because of digging of road and land by several departments and agencies for various reasons causing BSNl subscribers to suffer as the fibre cables get cut when JCB machines are used for digging. Finally, customers blame us,” said Mishra here on the sidelines of a media briefing  about the launch of new free call (9 pm to 7 am) scheme in Odisha and elsewhere in the country on Friday.

He stated that no agency seeks prior approval from BSNl to dig roads and the BSNl has no authority to direct them not to do so. However, the CGM informed that despite all the hurdles the Odisha circle has been making profit for last three years. The CGM also announced the unlimited free night calling scheme from the BSNl landline phones to all networks across the country from May 1. “Under this scheme all major landline general plans of rural and urban areas, landline special plans as well as all major Combo (landline + Broadband) plans are covered. More details are available on BSNl Odisha website www.odisha.bsnl.co.in,” he said.

“Now 3,60,675 landline phones are being used in Odisha. With the new unlimited free night calling scheme, the BSNl intends to promote landline usage,” said Mishra.
