Housing and Urban Development Minister Puspendra Singh Deo on Friday told the State Assembly that the Government has planned to adopt a Decentralised Septage Management System in small cities as the underground sewerage system is very expensive. “Currently, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri have underground sewerage system and the Government is planning to put in place the system in Sambalpur and Rourkela in coming days. As sewerage system is very expensive, all other cities will have septage management system,” the Miniser said while replying to a question put by Ranjib Biswal and additional questions by many other members.
The Minister further informed that 26 cities of the State have been included in the septage system in the first phase and other cities would be included in a phased manner. As per the septage system, waste materials would be transferred though cesspools to strategic places and treated there. While Biswal wanted to know if the Government has any plan to establish sewerage system in Jagatsinghpur town, other members like Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Pradip Purohit, Samir Ranjan Dash, Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik and Prafulla Majhi raised related questions regarding the system for cities in their respective areas.
