In a shocking incident, Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) and paediatric specialist at the district Government hospital in Subarnapur district, Dr Durbadal Mishra was found murdered near his residence in the Town police station area here on Sunday night.
His body, with his throat slit open, was spotted lying in a pool of blood barely 30 metre from his residence. Four rounds of live ammunitions were also recovered from the spot.
Dr Mishra was killed as soon as he returned from duty as usual at 10.30 pm. His motorbike was found parked outside his residence.
The police have begun investigation into the gruesome murder and trying to identify the assailants, sources said.
Mishra was a popular doctor and was not known to have enmity with anyone, the sources added.
The police on Monday detained two persons for interrogation in connection with the murder and pressed a scientific team and sniffer dogs into service to ascertain details of the crime.
