The Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department began observing the Senior Citizens’ Week here on Monday.
Kandhamal district Collector Dr Brunda D, SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra, ADM and CDMO attended as guests.
The Collector directed all concerned officers to respond to grievances of all senior citizens on a priority basis with gentle manner.
The SP requested all senior citizens to take help of the help desk created for their support. He said identity cards would soon be issued to them for their safety and security.
A workshop held on the occasion discussed issues relating to senior citizens’ safety and role of police and the help desk.
Guidelines under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2017 and the Odisha Senior Citizens Policy, 2016 would be discussed during this week.
Besides, health checkup camp, sports event, grandchildren tribute for senior citizens have been planned. Brahma Kumaris would hold spiritual programmes.
