Senior assistant suspended; officers' role too suspected

Published on:

Senior Assistant of the Examination Confidential Section of Berhampur University (BU) Subash Chandra Panda was suspended from service on Friday by the university authorities for his alleged involvement in an examination scam.

Mention may be made that another Senior Assistant of the Examination Section Sankar Majhi had been arrested on July 5 by the Malkangiri police for his alleged involvement with the incident of tampering of mark sheets.

Majhi had reportedly accepted bribe from some examinees of Malkangiri district through some brokers assuring them to fetch more marks in their +3 examinations. Three brokers reportedly figured in the list including Subash Chandra Panda.

The police made search operations to nab Panda, but in vain. The police searched the possible hideouts of Panda in Brahmapur and Paralakhemndi but could not get any clue.

Hence the police  declared him an absconder since July, said Investigating Officer Mahendra Sahu. Some officers of the examination unit of the Berhampur University are also reportedly involved with the scam and the whole chain should be exposed, said an insider.

There is a strong public perception that the entire examination irregularities of the university made during last five to six years should be probed by an independent agency.

A group of officers in charge of examinations of the university is reportedly trying to sell all the examination-related papersm including old answer scripts, apprehending action, sources revealed.
