'Semi-underground dump yard in Brahmapur soon'

Published on:

A semi-underground garbage dump yard would be set up in the city with a cost of Rs 1.5 crore and for which tender process has begun, informed Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore in the BeMC Council meeting held here on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by BeMC Mayor K Madhavi.

Rathore said steps have been taken to ban plastic and polythene bags and instead allow use of paper packets and cotton bags to support the campaign called by the State Government from October 2.

He said 10 Self Help Groups (SHGs) would be trained and given Rs 25,000 each to make paper packets, cotton bags and other alternatives.

Many Corporators expressed their displeasure over the digging of road by a private firm in the city and demanded that the road be repaired at the earliest. They also demanded to solve the problems arising from the biometrics use by retired BeMC employees.

Apart for this, discussions were held on irregularities in distribution of BeMC shops and opening of a branch of a bank in the BeMC premises. On the occasion, Rathore also spoke on the new card service for the bedridden and PWDs retired employees.

Rathore also pointed out that a super market would be constructed along with projects after demolishing all the guest houses and Kalyan Mandaps in city. Food court would also be constructed, he added.

While the Council Meeting was on, beneficiaries of the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) held a silent protest in front of the BeMC with black cloths on mouth against RAY irregularities.

They demanded the resignation of Ward 3 Corporator and called off the stir on the assurance from the authorites.
