Non-resident Odia (NRO) Professor Digambara Patra of the American University of Beirut, lebanon, who is a native of Kalahandi district, has welcomed the decision of the State Government to select teachers through the State Staff Selection Commission and at the same time urged that the selection be made at the district level.
In a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Patra said to bring equitable growth in human development across Odisha, it is justified to have selection of medical, engineering, animal husbandry and agriculture seats as well as teaching, lectureship and other State level professional and non-professional jobs through district level selection procedure through a competitive exam.
With the present form for selection procedure, candidates in the backward and tribal pockets in Odisha are being largely shielded by the candidates, particularly from coastal Odisha region and few major cities in Odisha.
Candidates, especially from KBK districts, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Bargarh, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, etc, are largely at the receiving end.
Even in the State level selection for medical and engineering seats, majority of them come from a particular region by hindering professional human development in other backward and tribal pockets, he said.
