Security tightened along Bengal border

The Baleswar district administration, adopting a zero-entry principle, on Friday tightened security along the border with West Bengal to prevent entry of people to the district from the nieghbouring State.

Baleswar Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy, ADM Nilu Mohapatra and other senior officials took stock of the security arrangements at the inter-State check-gate at Laxmannath.

According to Mohapatra, “The entry from the Bengal end is being thoroughly screened. Vehicles laden with essential commodities are allowed entry with drivers and helpers while others are being asked to furnish Covid vaccination proof or RT-PCR negative report and to remain in home quarantine for 14 days.” “Further, those who don’t possess any aforesaid documents are being lodged in the two quarantine centres in Jaleswar. Adequate police forces have been deployed to prevent trespassing via the village roads,” he added. Reports also said that police have intensified patrolling in the water routes in order to prevent any infiltration into the State through waterways.
