Bust camps, seize ammunition

A joint team of security personnel comprising SOG jawans from Koraput and Malkangiri districts on Thursday had an extensive exchange of fire with Maoists in forests near Majhiguda in Koraput district.

According to reports, the joint team had busted a camp in a forest near Majhiguda village under Boipariguda police limits in Koraput district on Wednesday evening and seized a SlR rifle and a .303 pistol from the camp.

Continuing their combing operations, the joint team again launched an operation in the wee hours of Thursday and busted three Maoist camps in the forest, said IG (south-western range) Yashwant Kumar Jethwa.

“There were around 15 to 20 Maoists. They spotted our men and started firing. In retaliation, our men fired back. Though several rounds were fired from either side during the gun-battle but no injury or casualty has been reported,” he added.

Jethwa said the ultras were the members of Boipariguda area committee led by Maoist leader Rukmuni. This committee is working as an important bridge to Chhattisgarh Maoists, he added.

The security personnel also seized explosives, a country-made gun, live ammunitions, Maoist literature and articles from the camp, the IG informed.
