Section 144 in tribals' stir site at Panposh

The Sundargarh district administration on Thursday imposed Section 144 of CrPC in the Nuagaon-Panposh bridge area to avoid possible untoward incident in the wake of Jail Bharo agitation call given by tribals in protest against arrest of some of their clansmen on charge of demolishing compound wall of a company. As many as 15 platoon police forces were deployed in the area for the purpose. The tribal body, Sundargarh District Adibasi Mulabasi Bachao Sangha (SDAMBS), led by Biramitrapur MlA Georgy Tirkey had on Tuesday given the call to protest arrest of tribals who had demolished a boundary wall of the Veritas Corporation while opposing illegal transfer of land to it by the Idco.

According to sources, hundreds of tribals led by Birmitrapur MlA George Tirkey gathered on a field in the Chikatmati area and conducted a meeting. “Innocent tribals have been put behind the bar. This is unfair, we won’t tolerate this,” Tirkey said. No untoward incident was reported from the area, sources added. The agitation is expected to expect longer on continuing support from the civil society.
